LOCKPORT SOCCER CLUB FORMS LOCAL TRAVEL SOCCER ALLIANCE The Lockport Soccer Club is pleased to announce that it has joined with the Clarence Soccer Club, Grand Island Soccer Club, Hamburg Soccer Club, Kenmore Soccer and Amherst Soccer Association to form a "cluster" that will conduct joint activities to foster the development of the players and coaches from each club. The six Clubs involved are recognized as the leaders in travel soccer for their communities. Each of them has as their focus developing players within their communities, not on recruitment of teams and players from other Clubs or towns. The initial meeting led to the identification of several activities: Under 9 Festivals - six indoor festivals will be held during the fall and winter months for the Under 9 developmental teams from each Club. Since youth soccer experts recognize that teams below U-10 should not be playing travel soccer, the six clubs have structured the festivals as a bridge between recreational play and travel, which will best prepare the teams for travel play in the following season. This is a follow-on to the highly successful, well-received U9 "Friendlies" that ASA ran at EPIC Center last year. Indoor League Play - In order to help ensure that teams are entered in the proper competitive division, the Directors of Coaching will enter teams for indoor play at the Epic Center and Sahlen’s as a unit. They will work to competitively align the teams between the 6 clubs, so as to ensure indoor play results in fair matches that challenge the players and continue their development. Coaching Education - Amherst and Clarence will take the lead in hosting USYSA and NSCAA courses for the Club coaches, and the Directors of Coaching will work on special clinics to foster ongoing coaching education for the 6 Clubs. Under 23 Teams - the Clubs will encourage the formation of Under 23 teams and provide fields for outdoor play in 2009, so that each community’s players can continue to enjoy the game that the Clubs fostered in those players when they were part of their youth programs. We are excited to represent our community in this ground-breaking effort, joined with 5 of the area’s finest soccer organizations. We will work to grow these joint efforts, and continue to be the leader for youth soccer.
